Who is a medium....?
A medium (diviner) is a traditional healer whose major method of working is to diagonise problems. This is usually done through spiritual means. If a patient is suffering from a physical ailment the herbalist takes over to offer the right remedies. If the patient has emotional and psychological problems the medium / diviner offers the remedies by influencing a better path for the patient.
We are not alone in the universe....
We do not exist alone in the universe. There people who have gone before us. These people are usually refered to as the ancestors, they look upon us on a daily basis and influence our lives either for the good or for the bad.
Every society has medium or diviners....
Some people in all societies have been bestowed with the skill to relate with the ancestors. These are the mediums or sometimes refered to as diviners.
How do mediums work....?
Mediums or diviners operate in different ways depending on society to which they come from. In the East African society a bark cloth and cowrie shells are used to call the ancestors and talk to them. In the South African society bones are thrown. The results are usually the same.
In the Re-Union.....
In the islands of Re-Union we use animal trinkets to call ancestors into our amidst. These trinkets act as a medium of divining to predict the future, deal with difficult situations, diagnose and to treat illness. This act is taken seriously on the islands and it is not for chatlatans.
Ancestors are are called and are appeased through cattle sacrifices. The ongoing communication between these two worlds sustains the interconnectedness and continues the circle of life which forms a significant part of African life both in terrestial and mystical realms.
Spirits and our ancestors are always in our midst....
Ancestors or spirits are able to see what is happening in our lives. Ancestors are able to foretell what will happen to you in the near future. There always there in your midst. It is how you are able to take control of the direction they are giving you that differentiates those who benefit from them and the many that do not.
The ancestors can give you the facts....
Armed with the facts from the ancestors about your life you can now choose what you want to do with yourself. The ancestors can wade off problems. They can lure wealth and fortune for you. They can cast a bad spell. It is all up to you to choose. It all depends on your problem. Most problems have a solution and the solution resides with us.
Is Dr Dada a medium....?
Yes I am medium. This skill was passed on to me by my grandfather who was a medium as well. It is something that I did not want to do. It is something that I resisted tremendously. I wanted to leave a modern life. I wanted to be like other children.
How I became a medium....?
As a young man I used to see visions of my great grand ancestors. I told this to my father who took me to stay with my grandfather who was already a practising medium and psychic. My father definately discovered that I had been chosen to carry forward the traditional healing skill in our family.
My grandfather walked me through the process. We visited the mountains and the beaches of Re-Union. My grandfather often called the spirits and we talked to them. I went through a lot of training to become a true diviner.
In my teenage years I rebelled against all this thing. I did not want to be a healer. I wanted to be a normal person. I run away from grandfather and went to the city.
It looked rosy in the city, until when my world came tumbling down. I got into trouble with the law. I also got terrible headaches that did not seem to have any cause. My world caved in.
I new the truth. I was just denying what I was. The ancestors where calling me back. I had no choice but to go back to the calling.
I have lived as a medium/psychic since then.
